6/2011 Satin tie

A quick project I made for my dad using this pattern from Puking Pastilles. I never thought making a tie is so easy. Even sewing it by hand - suddenly the tie looked sooo long - went by so quickly. The instructions are well made. The only thing that bothers me is that the tie is a bit wide (just the widest part, not a whole tie), even for a guy. But that's not too difficult to correct. Just trim the long sides of the pattern and that's it. Or you could just use Osman tie pattern from BurdaStyle.

Also, I was working on a special project last week. I'll unveil the secret very soon! ;)

5/2011 Prom dress

This is the dress I already talked about. It was the first time I used satin and chiffon. I was expecting some difficulties sewing (satin is very slippery and chiffon is sooo thin), but had almost none. Although it would be nice to have an overlock machine for the hem. Anyway, it came out exactly as my sister wanted.

This was also my first time doing bead embroidery. My sister and her friend drew the design and I embroidered japanese delica and Swarovski crystal beads using "backstitch 2" from this book.

Inspiration: Elie Saab

For me, fashion design means making exceptional creations from the most ordinary things, inventing new techniques and setting up fresh styles.

Elie Saab is doing it perfectly. He is known for his feminine dresses, beaded and hand embroidered exquisitely. It's all about softness and detail.

8/2011 Panties

These are plain panties I made using my "patternmaking bible".

I used black cotton jersey, some regular and some fold-over elastic. They turned out to be really comfortable. I'm also thinking about making different types of panties, from different kinds of fabric ...

What types of panties do you wear? What is more important to you: comfort or good looks?

Royal wedding

I haven't watched the wedding yet, but I have seen photos and some short videos on Youtube. Catherine was gorgeous and the dress designed by Sarah Burton for McQueen was breathtaking. It's amazing how much work and effort went into the details of the dress! Gretchen from Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing wrote a post about it, too.

Did you watch? Do you like the dress?
